This year has been one of the most successful for Lockton Performance. We have seen record growth, new clients and excellent retention levels. We have also attended more motoring events than ever before, reinforcing our position as the broker of choice for the specialist car sector.

As 2023 comes to a close, we asked some of the Performance team to choose some of their personal highlights.

Simon Ambler, Head of Lockton Performance

“2023 has been one of the best years I can recall. My own stand-out moments include a 5AM ride through a deserted West End of London in a 1903 Daimler at the start of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, driving a beautiful Ferrari 512TR on the Salon Privé Tour and dining beneath the wings of Concorde – all “money can't buy” moments.

We always raise the bar at Salon Privé and 2023 was no exception. Three standout McLarens and last year's Club Trophy winning Ferrari 308 once again made Lockton's Drivers Lounge a focal point for our guests and other visitors to the event.

The increased engagement with our car club partners has made 2023 a vintage year for the entire team and we have more exciting plans for the next 12 months. I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank the entire team for their hard work and relentless delivery of service to our clients.

It already looks like 2024 will bring even more of the same and I can't wait!”

Rachel Gilliam, Head of Lockton Private Clients

“As a lifelong motoring enthusiast, it's always a genuine pleasure to get involved with the Performance team and 2023 provided some treasured memories.

My own highlight was taking part in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. I've driven a lot of different vehicles but never a veteran and the camaraderie and sheer fun we had has got me planning a return in 2024, perhaps even driving one of these magnificent machines!

Salon Privé is one of the biggest events on Lockton's calendar and I always look forward to four days of being surrounded by the best cars and luxury goods, entertaining our clients and guests and spending time with our insurer partners.

Veloce is another standout moment – easily the best trackday anywhere. From passenger laps in a beautifully restored Mini Cooper to listening to Nick Fry and Ross Brawn give us all a highly entertaining preview of the Brawn GP TV show, it's a fantastic way to spend a day with like-minded enthusiasts and guests.”

Matt Haynes, Vice President

“What a year! 2023 has been very busy, with lots of new clients won and some great contacts made especially within our various car club partners. We are working more closely with them than ever and meeting them and their members is always a high point of my job.

For me, Porsche By The Lake was the surprise of the year. Run by a great client of ours, it managed to have the feel of a garden party with over 600 Porsches on display and families enjoying the summer sunshine in a great setting. Sitting next to Ross Brawn for some passenger laps in his gorgeous Ferrari 250 SWB will also stay in the memory for a long time.

More of the same next year please.”

Andy Couper, Vice President

“2023 has been absolutely crazy with too many highlights to list in full, but here are a handful.

Being squeezed into a BMW CSL Batmobile for some hot laps at Veloce was pretty special and utterly exhilarating, as was curating the stellar line-up of cars we showed at Salon Privé. Dinner with the Aston Martin Owners Club under Concorde was one of many similar “pinch me” moments, as was my first trip to the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall. Meeting club members at various events throughout the year was a pleasure – everyone has a different story to tell.

The one memory that stands out isn't an event, but a reminder of what a great place to work Lockton is. One of our fabulous clients kindly leant me his Ferrari FF to take my middle daughter to her secondary school prom back in June and the memory of a special day in a truly magnificent car will stay with me forever.

It's been a joy being part of this amazing team during 2023 and a sincere thanks to our clients and car club and event partners for making us feel so welcome”.

Simon ends by adding;

“I would like to thank every single person who took the time to talk to the team at events this year. Similarly, our fantastic car club partners have made us feel more welcome than ever and taken our engagement with them and their members to a new level.

None of this would have been possible without the wider Lockton Performance team, our fantastic creative partners at MESH and our own marketing and event management colleagues.

We look forward to seeing more of you next year, but for now we wish you all a very Happy Christmas and prosperous 2024.”
